Adjust photo size with Photo editing software Photoshop
Basically, with my Nikon D7 I shoot a large jpeg, and the image size in photoshop becomes
about a 6x10, at 300 dpi. I need to make 16x20's from these files, how do I do this
without messing up a good resolution for printing.
-Do I just go ahead and increase the size while keeping it at 300 dpi? Or will this
pixilate the image?
-Do I link all the options (dimensions and resolution) and get a lower resolution?
-do i keep "resample image" and "constrain proportions" both
checked?
Im using photoshop 7
Thanks in advance!
RE:
By D7 you mean a D70, right? That is a 6.1 megapixel camera. So read the following
statement well and memorize it:
Whatever the resolution and size of your image, it will have 6.1 megapixels. Period.
This is critical to understand, because resolution simply determines how densely those
pixels are packed together, and the image dimensions will follow. In otherwords, for a
finite number of pixels, you will produce a larger image with a lower resolution (ppi) and
a smaller image with a higher (i.e. denser) resolution.
So the image out of your camera is 3008 x 2000 pixels. This is a 2:3 aspect ratio (the
dimensions of the picture), which will produce 4x6, 8x12, 16x24, etc images. If you want
to print a 16x20, you will need to crop your image to 4x5 instead of 4x6. So this will
leave you with a 2507 x 2000 pixel image, or 5.0 megapixels.

Adobe Photoshop CS2 is "for serious professionals working
with still digital media.
According to CNet, Adobe Photoshop CS2 is "for serious professionals working with
still digital media." The application has new features, and it integrates much better
with Adobe's other products. The latest version of this photo editor also has new tools
for correcting optical lens distortion and image noise. Professional photographers say
there's really no substitute for Adobe Photoshop CS2. This is one of the few photo editors
that can manipulate RAW image files, letting you completely rebuild a photo from the
ground up. For non-professionals, however, photo-editing software in the $100 price range
includes the most important features of Photoshop CS2 without the learning curve or
expense. Two photo editors run neck and neck in reviews, Corel Paint Shop Pro (*est. $100)
and Adobe Photoshop Elements (*est. $90).
